Solis By Paola Mendoza & Abby Sher
Our final book recommendation for Hispanic and Latine Heritage Month is Paola Mendoza and Abby Sher’s speculative novel, Solis! It’s a companion to their 2020 book, Sanctuary, and you need to check out both if you can. Set in 2033, undocumented immigrants are forced into labor camps mining the destructive yet potentially life-changing aqualinium. They’re subject to experiments to test this substance, which the New American Republic could use to control the weather. Four rebels carry out a plan for liberation and revolution in this haunting tale.
